Recommended Airport

1. Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (IATA: REC)

To come to TUFH 2027, participants should fly to Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (IATA: REC). This is one of the busiest airports in Northeast Brazil and an important hub for domestic and international travel.

The airport is conveniently located approximately 2 km from the conference venue and around 5 km from Boa Viagem, where many recommended hotels are located.

2. Airport Location and Hotel Area

All recommended hotels will be located in the Boa Viagem area, which offers easy access to the airport, the conference venue, restaurants, and services.

3. Transportation from the Airport

Participants will have several transportation options to travel from Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC) to their accommodation.

Airport Taxi:

Estimated fare to the Boa Viagem neighborhood: approximately R$ 57.00 (US$ 11.00). We recommend using Coopseta, the official taxi service available inside the airport.
Ride-hailing Apps: Uber and 99 are widely available at the airport and are often the most convenient transportation options. Prices vary depending on demand and time of day.
Walking to the Venue

Not recommended. Due to Recife’s tropical climate, high temperatures, and urban traffic conditions, we recommend using the conference transportation service or other available transportation options.
Public Transportation:

Estimated bus fare: approximately R$ 4.50 (US$ 1.00) per trip. Participants staying in Boa Viagem may take bus route 026 from the Airport Integration Terminal (TI Aeroporto). We recommend confirming routes and schedules closer to the event, as they may change.

 

4. Currency in Brazil

The official currency of Brazil is the Brazilian Real (BRL), represented by R$.

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but it is advisable to carry some cash for small purchases, taxis, and local services.

5. Weather and What to Wear (September)

Recife has a warm tropical climate. In September, temperatures are typically warm, with occasional rain.

We recommend bringing:

  • Light and breathable clothing
  • Comfortable shoes
  • A light jacket for air-conditioned spaces
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • An umbrella or light rain jacket
  • Smart casual attire for conference activities

In Brazil there are public and private hospitals. In case of emergency, you can go to a public hospital and under the Universal Health Coverage of SUS, you will be helped. Private hospitals will chareg extra, and are only recommended if you have travel insurance.

7. Public Transportation

Public transportation in Recife is an affordable way to travel around the city.

 

7.1 Useful App

We recommend downloading Cittamobi, which allows you to:

  • Plan bus routes;
  • Locate nearby bus stops;
  • Check estimated arrival times;
  • Recharge your VEM Comum transportation card.

7.2 Paying for the Bus

Public buses accept:

  • Cash (Brazilian Real – BRL only);
  • VEM Comum electronic transportation card.

Please note:

  • The current single bus fare is approximately R$ 4.50 BRL.
  • When paying in cash, passengers must have the exact amount, as drivers do not provide change.
  • VEM Comum cards can be purchased at the self-service machines located inside the Integration Terminals (Terminais de Integração – TI) for approximately R$ 4.00 BRL.
  • Cards can be recharged:
    • at the self-service machines (cash or credit card); or
    • through the Cittamobi app (credit card only).

7.3 Airport to Boa Viagem by Bus

Participants staying in the recommended hotels can travel from Recife International Airport to Boa Viagem using bus route 026 (TI Aeroporto – TI Joana Bezerra).

Step 1

After arriving in the Arrivals Hall (Ground Floor), take the elevator or stairs to the Departure Level (First Floor).

Follow the signs for Public Transportation.

Step 2

Exit through Gate B6.

Near the Avianca/LATAM signs, you will find the entrance to the pedestrian overpass leading to the Airport Integration Terminal (TI Aeroporto).

Step 3

Walk across the pedestrian overpass (approximately 13 minutes) to reach the bus terminal.

Step 4

At TI Aeroporto, locate the stop for:

Bus Route 026 – TI Aeroporto ↔ TI Joana Bezerra

Step 5

Ride the bus for approximately 14 stops (about 20–30 minutes).

Get off in the Boa Viagem neighborhood.

From there, all recommended hotels are approximately a 10-minute walk away.
